Dean Welter, Novato Police Department
2012 Northern Chapter Assistant Director

Dean is currently the Dispatch Supervisor with the Novato Police Department.  Dean's law enforcement adventure began in 1982 as a Records clerk with the same agency.  Six months later he was promoted to Dispatcher.  In 1986, he was the first Senior Dispatcher for the agency and then reclassified to "Dispatch Supervisor" in 1992.  Dean supervises a dispatch staff of nine.  All computer inquiries for his agency are completed by the Dispatch staff.

Dean's first CCUG experience was at the annual conference in South San Francisco many years ago.  After this experience, he frequently attended quarterly training meetings and annual conferences.  Dean waited patiently for his opportunity to become involved at the Board level with CCUG.  That happened when he was elected to serve as treasurer in 2008, 2009 and 2010. For 2011, Dean was elected to serve as the Northern Chapter Secretary.  With the Chapter Assistant Director position suddenly unfilled for 2012, Dean was asked to step in to finish the term and happily agreed to do so, happy to become more actively involved with CCUG after his year long battle to get back to health.

Dean is married with two sons. His interests outside of work include playing ice hockey and watching the San Jose Sharks! When finding ways to relax, an island beach is his preferable destination.
