Southern Chapter Training Meeting
Brea, CA
May 8, 2024
Training: Cyber Security [0830-1130]
Presented By: Tom Lawless and Jacob Aguilar – Cyber Security and Infrastructure Security Agency / Department of Homeland Security
CISA is the operational lead for federal cybersecurity and the national coordinator for critical infrastructure security and resilience. Their core mission revolves around fostering collaboration and partnerships with both governmental and private entities to mitigate risks to the nation’s cyber and physical infrastructure. During the session, Mr. Lawless and Mr. Aguilar will shed light on strategic activities essential for building and maintaining organizational security. In addition, attendees will receive insights into CISA’s established cyber performance objectives, serving as a guide for assessing their organization’s cybersecurity baseline. As an added bonus, we will hear first-hand from an agency who was attacked and how they handled day to day business without access to CLETS.
Training: Investigative Resources & Homeland Security Updates [1300-1600]
Presented by: Josh Goldmark, Lead Dispatcher – West Cities Police Communications
During this session, Josh will share tips and tricks learned during his time as a dispatcher as well as a reserve detective over the past 28 years. He will provide resources that can be utilized to assist officers in the field as well as investigators in the detective bureau. Additionally, Josh will touch on several threats currently facing law enforcement such as SWATTING trends and ransomware techniques. He will also review the Known or Suspected Terrorist File (KSTF) from NCIC, also known as the Terrorist Watch List and explain the proper handling and interpretation of these hits.
